BOMs Away - Eternal Bloom Center

Well, after much seam ripping and cutting pieces AGAIN because oh how these instructions are so hard to follow… I have the full, complete, center block of Eternal Bloom finished!

Let's back up a smidge, though. First I had to cut and piece the little purple buds. Twenty pieces, no biggie, right? NO. They were a mess. I should have had a Mother’s Day mimosa, maybe then I could have understood the instructions.

In the end, I made these. They are not right. The black pieces were supposed to go after the purple pieces, making the buds more of a rounded shape rather than pointy. (Like the red buds in the finished piece.) But by the time I figured that out, I had already re-pieced several other bits, and I was over it. So they are pointy buds, and anyone who doesn't like it won't get to use the quilt on the couch at cuddle time. So there.

(Ha! Like this is a cuddle quilt. It's going to end somewhere around 90x110”, I think.)

Anyway, after I finally had those stupid little buds done, it was finally time to piece the whole center section! This was far easier than the purple buds and was together with only one seam ripped and redone. Whew! After five months just one this one section, it’s nice to have it done. Now I have a half block to do, one full block, and the borders. Don’t worry, the borders are covered in more flowers, so we’re still a ways away from a finish…

And so… Did anyone else work on (or start) a BOM? Or a project broken into {slightly} more manageable monthly pieces? Or a few blocks for someone else’s charity project? Link up here or at What a Hoot!
