BOMs Away - Floating Stars

I wrapped up my last Quilts of Valor leader/ender about a month ago {slowly hand binding it now!} So it was time to break out a new l/e and stick it in my last BOMs Away slot. I figured it would take a while to build up a stash of these, but it's going much faster than expected.

I'm part way through the next red one, and I cut out the last four blocks so they're ready to keep moving forward. There's not that much cutting, actually. My local QOV chair gave me a "kit" with a stack of 6" flag background and told me to have fun. I decided on the floating stars because, well, it uses lots of the background squares!

I'm using 3.25" squares for the star points. And I'm using those big flag prints that don't work as small scraps! And of course I'm saving the bonus HSTs...sigh. No, really, I'm going to do something with those. I swear I won't end this BOMs Away project with those suckers in a bag somewhere!

They're 17" unfinished, which makes sashing a little more interesting. I was going to go with 6" scrappy, but now that they're on the wall, I'm thinking skinnier is better. Maybe 3x6" rectangles? Anyway, I have about a month to go before I need to worry about that.

So how's everyone else doing making those parts into blocks and blocks into quilts?
