Chain of Fours - a Finished Quilt

So, this quilt - I'm just going to start out by bragging. Quilts of Valor is putting together a book with one quilt from every state, and this quilt is one of the three finalists for Washington. Go me! The Quilts of Valor mission is obviously near and dear to my heart, as a military wife. I have a goal of making four tops a year for the organization. (Update - hahahaha, I’m now the SW OK district coordinator and I make four quilts a month!)

If it's chosen, it'll be in the book and travel to "major exhibits" in 2018 before being presented to a veteran. If it's not chosen, it goes to a veteran this summer instead. Win win!

UPDATE: it was chosen! And published! And now it’s traveling around the US at the AQS shows! It stops in Paducah this spring, gets displayed in the Quilt Museum for a bit, then will finally be awarded to a veteran. Super exciting!

The pattern is Chain of Fours by Porch Swing Quilts, edited by me. Jennie is the best person to pattern test for, because she doesn't care if I use the latest and popular fabrics. When I saw this had bunches of 2.5" squares in it, I knew I was going to do it scrappy RWB, because I have stacks of leftover binding strips. So folks, if you have one of my quilts with blue binding, there's a part of you in this one, too!

The quilting is something I call "double curve" because I don't know the real term for it. It's a good one for me because I can cross over lines to fill in spaces that I miss. {And I still always miss spots!} And I make secret swirly hearts! I used variegated RWB So-Fine, which has a much better variegation than the regular Superior Threads at my rental place. They spoil me there and let me use the good stuff!

I actually took it out of the backyard for pictures! And see how the wind rewarded me?

{Side note: that's my training partner, and this is my running trail. We have the best running trails. THAT LAKE!}

{Side note: the running trail is featured in Z Nation. Which, um, yeah, it can be creepy, I guess.}

We tried the other direction, but the wind did not behave. Nice shot of her legs, though!

Much better! And not my fence!

The backing is Quilting Treasures Ombre Scroll {high five for non-pieced wide backings!} The front is obviously scrap-tacular.
