Flying Four - A Porch Swing Quilts Pattern

Once again, Jennie at Porch Swing Quilts has saved my nearly-empty blog space! Don't worry - I do have some real finishes coming soon - some time after all the field days and fifth grade "skip day" and IEP meetings and Cub Scout crossovers.

But first! Mostly finished things!

Jennie went for a theme for this set of patterns - they're all based around the four patch. This one, Flying Four, is full of big blocks that use up lots of fabric, just like Four Squared. I started with a fat quarter bundle of Bella by Amanda Murphy, then pulled from my scrap and blender bins.

It was around Easter that I was pulling it together - can you tell? I actually made a total of twelve blocks, then the Dude's teacher announced that he was having a baby girl, so the Dude picked out six blocks and voila - instant end-of-the-year gift!

Mmm, lilacs.

The rest of the blocks will become a second baby quilt, and maybe some pillows or a mini.

And Jennie, of course, actually finished her version in the fabulous Pie Making Day. I think I actually prefer the overall patterns of the quilt rather than the single block.

Oh - and it's fat quarter friendly, {obviously} scrap friendly, OR layer cake friendly! You could easily do what I did - grab a layer cake for the bigger parts, then pull from your scraps to fill in the gaps. Or just use two layer cakes. Or mix and match with a layer cake and some fat quarters.
